Getting approve for financial aid (FAFSA) can be a challenging process. You have to keep your cool and never give up. It is a lot of jumping through hoops because there a lot of other people trying get money. But while you are waiting to be approved, your funds are running out. 1. Turn in your paper work early.
Although they financial aid counselors won't even look at your paper until a week to a month after you the end of the filing period. It is alway a good idea to turn in your paper work early to avoid lines and other issues.
2. Be on top of everything
Once the deadline has passed for FAFSA, your job is not over. You constantly check in with your school financial aid office. They are often overwhelm and you could end up at the bottom of a pile of folders. So it is important that you Call, Email and Drop In as frequently to check on your status.
3. If your are denied?
Sometimes there are students who get denied and asked to explain some things. Usually the reason is either their GPA does not meet the minimum GPA standards of that the school you are attending. It also may be you have too many units and credits which results in the financial aid office wondering why you haven't moved on to a degree. In this case you have to write an appeal letter stating why and what caused you the problem. With too many units school general accept and reinstate students for aid. But in cases of low GPA, the circumstances and outcomes vary.
